City and County of Bristol Inter Club Championship Winners 2011
Bristol Greenbank win the trophy after a 50 year wait. The first team to win the trophy 75 years ago, Greenbank has qualified for finals day many times since but fell at the final hurdle. The tension was unbearable at times but the team cheered on by a good following of club members and friends overcame Knowle in the semi-final and a late rally by G B Britton in the final to lift the trophy.
Job done! The team gather to celebrate a hard earned
victory over G B Britton after an extra end and Wally Clifford receiving the Winners Trophy
National Mixed Pairs
Quietly, very quietly Sue Humphries and Gerry Colffield have been making their way through the minefield that is the National Mixed Pairs. Breezing through the earlier rounds they have now progressed to round 6, the Area 5 Final, to be played away to Mr Clive Hall from the Worcester B.C. on Saturday 6th August. All at Greenbank wish them well in their efforts to get into the National Finals.
UPDATE
Sue and Gerry WIN and are off to Worthing.
Congratulations to Sue and Gerry on reaching the Bowls England Mixed Pairs Semi-Final at Worthing before losing to the eventual winners Amy Gowshall and Alan Dent of Cleethorpes B.C. by 23 shots to 17.
Gloucestershire County Triples Final
Brilliant for Graham Hudd, Jeff Lowden and Geoff Wilkins who became County Triples Champions after defeating Mark Perry, Nick Holiday & Mike Woodbridge of Cheltenham B.C. 19 - 14 at Bristol Arrow on Sunday 7th August. Presentation of the Cup by County President Anthony Sharkey.
Bristol City and County Inter Club Presentation
City and County of Bristol President Don Lyndsay presents the 2011 Inter Club Trophy to Greenbank President Richard Turvey at the City and County of Bristol Indoor Bowls Club.
Congratulation to Gerry Coffield for reaching the Gloucestershire County Champion of Champions Competition.
Gerry will meet the winner of the B Evans (Pineholt)/K Hinder (Dursley) Semi-Final.
Finals day is at Sir Thomas Rich's Bowls Club on Sunday 28th July.
Update:
Gerry played Keith Hinder in a 3.00 pm start and unfortunately lost 13 - 21 to an on fire Keith who had won both the 2 Woods and Singles finals before playing Gerry.
Nevertheless Gerry had done well to carry the club colours through to County Finals day.
